How to find your size
Sizes here are measured, not guessed, and every category measures a different landmark. Use a soft tape, pull it snug but not tight, and measure the limb you actually need the support for. If you fall between two sizes, ask our pharmacist before you buy rather than rounding up by habit: the right answer depends on whether you need firm support or all-day comfort, and it is not the same for every product. Bring your measurements in, or come by and we will measure you at the counter.
How to measure for a back or lumbar support
Two different landmarks here, so check which product you are buying. The industrial lifting belt is sized on the waist. The sacro and lumbosacral supports are sized on the widest part of the hips, not the waist, which is the single most common sizing mistake on this category.

How to measure for a knee brace
Measure around the bend of the knee, standing, with the leg straight. Both knee supports we carry use the same scale, so a size that fits one will fit the other.

The C-63 has been made in two versions: an older beige brace with flexible stays and an open heel, and a newer grey and blue support with spiral stays. They share a model number but not a size scale, and the difference is large, so a size in one is not a size in the other. Check which one is on the box, or bring it in and we will match it for you.
How to measure for an abdominal binder
Measure around the fullest part of the abdomen, standing and relaxed rather than holding your stomach in. We fit this one in store from the sizing printed on its own package, because binders vary a lot between makers and a chart from a different brand will put you in the wrong size. Ask at the counter and we will size it with you.
How to measure for compression stockings
This is the one worth getting exactly right, and the one people most often get wrong. Measure first thing in the morning, before any swelling builds through the day, or the stocking will be too loose by the time you actually need it. You need three numbers: the ankle at its narrowest point, the calf at its fullest, and the length from the floor to the bend of the knee.
| Size | Ankle | Calf | Length to knee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 7" – 8¼" | 11" – 14" | 16" – 17½" |
| Medium | 8⅜" – 9⅝" | 13½" – 16" | 17½" – 19" |
| Large | 9¾" – 11" | 15½" – 18" | 19" – 20½" |
| X-Large | 11⅛" – 12⅜" | 17½" – 20" | 20½" – 22" |
| 2X-Large | 12½" – 13¾" | 19½" – 22" | 22" – 24" |
| 3X-Large | 12½" – 13¾" | 21½" – 24" | 22" – 24" |
| 4X-Large | 13" – 14¼" | 23½" – 26" | 22" – 24" |
4X-Large, and the short length under 16", are made in black and beige only. Ask us to check availability before you make a trip for one.
| Size | Women's shoe | Ankle | Calf | Length to knee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 8½ and under | 7" – 8¼" | 11" – 14" | 15" – 16½" |
| Medium | 9 – 11½ | 8¼" – 9¾" | 13½" – 16" | 16½" – 18" |
| Large | 12 – 13½ | 9¾" – 11" | 15½" – 18" | 18" – 19½" |
| X-Large | 12½ and over | 11" – 12½" | 17½" – 20" | 19½" – 21" |
Choosing a compression level is a separate question from choosing a size. 15-20 mmHg is mild support for tired legs, travel and standing all day; 20-30 mmHg is firm therapeutic compression. Compression is not suitable for everyone, so if you have reduced circulation in your legs, diabetes affecting the feet, or a known arterial condition, speak to our pharmacist before wearing any compression garment.
Questions we get asked at the counter
Will my insurance cover a brace or compression stockings?
Many extended health plans cover braces, supports and compression hosiery, but most ask for two things: a prescription from your doctor or nurse practitioner naming the item, and an itemised receipt showing the product name, model and price. Many plans want the prescription dated before the purchase, so it is worth getting it first. Ask us at the counter for an itemised receipt. Coverage varies a lot between plans, so check yours before you buy.
Do I need a prescription for compression stockings in Ontario?
Not to buy them. Every compression level we carry, including 20-30 mmHg, is available over the counter, so you can walk in and take them home the same day. A prescription matters for your insurance claim, not for the purchase itself. If you intend to claim it, get the prescription first.
What is the difference between 15-20 and 20-30 mmHg?
15-20 mmHg is mild support, the usual choice for tired or aching legs, long flights, standing all day, and mild swelling. 20-30 mmHg is firm therapeutic compression, generally used for more pronounced varicose veins and more persistent swelling. Compression is not right for everyone: if you have reduced circulation in your legs, diabetes affecting the nerves or feet, or a known arterial condition, speak to our pharmacist before wearing any compression garment.
How do I know what size I need?
Sizes are measured, not guessed, and each category measures a different landmark: the widest part of the hips for a lumbosacral support, around the knee for a knee brace, the ankle and calf for compression stockings. Measure for compression in the morning, before swelling builds through the day. Bring your measurements, or come in and our pharmacist will measure you and check the fit in person.
